Operated by: Shalbourne Soaring Group

Location: E of A338, in/near Shalbourne, 4nm S of Hungerford

Period of operation: 1980s(?) to -

NOTES:   Initially I had the information below listed under the INKPEN entry.

In 1977 it seems the site was regularly used by, if not based here: Auster 3 G-AREI, D.62B Condor G-AVAW (listed as belonging to the Tiger Club in a 1977 register), Cessna F.177RG G-AZUO of Newbury Sand and Gravel Co, Slingsby T.61A G-BADH of N F W Eyres & Partners and Bellanca 7GCBC Citabria G-BDBH.

In April 2020 I was kindly contacted by Mr Tony Hine who pointed out my error in listing this info under INKPEN - and he should know. And also pointed out that the site is also known as Moordown Farm. The Cessna F.177RG Cardinal G-AZUO was owned by his father Monty Hine.

"As a reward for my efforts working on the farm, I had gliding lessons in a T21. I never went solo as planned on my 16th birthday because they changed from a T21 to a Blanik.....It was like I would have to learn to fly again from scratch!"

As it happens, I can somewhat relate to this, although I never flew in a T21; but I have seen them. I did however much enjoy two cable launches in a LET L-13 Blanik (OK3702) from Bobovice airfield in the Czech Republic on the 28th September 2008.
