Rock Hill Farm

Note: This map is only a guess as to the location. Could anybody be kind enough to confirm it?

ROCK HILL FARM Temporary aerodrome?

Operated by: Alan Cobham’s 1933 No.1 Tour of the UK (?) and the Sky Devils Air Circus 1934 Tour of the UK

Location: Near to and E to ENE of Chipping Norton

Period of operation: 6th October 1933, 25th September 1934

NOTES: Although it is fairly certain, (in as much as anything in this Guide is certain), when Alan Cobham’s 1933 No.1 tour visited Chipping Norton there is some question as to Rock Hill Farm being the venue. Can anybody confirm or deny this? This venue seems very certain for the 1934 Sky Devils Tour.

The field on the other side of the road - south and east of Rock Hill Farm - looks a good candidate. A 1929 photo of Chipping Norton shows a small fair at the top of the field and some sort of large race track covering the rest of the field. It looks as if it's been permanent pasture for quite a while.
