Rutland Water flying sites

Note: This map only shows the position of Rutland Water within the UK. If anybody can kindly offer advice and information regarding the entries listed below, this will be much appreciated.

RUTLAND WATER see also BARNSDALE LODGE HOTEL

RUTLAND WATER: Temporary water landing ground

Location: Very large reservoir SE of Oakham

Period of operation: 1980s only?

NOTES: Used once, (possibly more often?), by the Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina G-BLSC.

RUTLAND WATER: Private airstrip

Runway: 500   grass

NOTES: In 2001 it appears that the Darlow DR-107 One Design G-IDII was based here. The Jodel D120 G-BANU booked in to 2004 PFA Rally from RUTLAND WATER. The AAIB report EW/G2012/07/27 describes a “Private airstrip near Rutland Water with a runway of 06/24, 800m. Could this be the same site or are there two around Rutland Water?
