Location: Near to Donnington, about 1.5nm N of Newbury town centre

Period of operation: 1970s to 1990s?

Runway:  Not known but appearing to be, at least:   02/20   575   grass

NOTES: In the mid 1970s it appears that four aircraft were based here; Auster 5 G-AKOW, Piper PA-22 Tri-Pacer 150 G-ARCC of Fainville Ltd, a Piper PA-28 Cherokee 180E of Newbury Air Services Ltd and, the pretty rare type, the Fairchild 24R-46A Argus III G-BCBL.

In November 2022, Mr Graham Frost tells us that the Piper PA-28 Cherokee 180C, G-ATVS (ex N9014J, was based here. Registered to Newbury Air Services Ltd, at "Newbury Airport" from 30.11.71 to 15.08.73. Also, there was a U.S. registered PA-38 Tomahawk.

Auster G-AJUO was written off following gale damage at Shawdene on 2/1/76. One of its 3 owners had a Newbury address, so it may have been based here.

This strip was about mile NNE of your marker east of and parallel to the original A34 road. If you zoom in, you can see what appears to be a hangar in the trees just off Curridge Road. 3 Counties Aero Club at Blackbushe used to fly their Cherokees in there to get them serviced in the 70s/80s, their Cessnas being serviced at Lasham.

Hi Terry, Many thanks, I shall amend the marker. Best regards, Dick
