Shempston Farm
SHEMPSTON FARM: Private airstrip (Also often spelt SHEMPSTONE)
Note: The first image was scanned from the AAIB Bulletin 6/2018. The remaining maps and aerial photo were kindly provided by Mr Michael T Holder.
Location: E of B9012, 0.5nm SW of RAF LOSSIEMOUTH
Period of operation: 1980s to –
Runways: 2008 15/33 580 grass 06/24 350 grass
(Note: If I have correctly identified this site then the eastern end of runway 06/24 is just 470 metres from the western end of runway 05/23 on RAF LOSSIEMOUTH)
In another AAIB report, EW/G2018/02/12, the runway used was given as 17/35. But, a look at Google Earth, (image date 2016), shows the main runway as still being 16/34. The other runway, now 07/25, is clearly shown as now being 335 metres long.
NOTES: Some time ago I made this note: "The AAIB report EW/G2012/08/07 concerned a Tiger Moth using a “Private airstrip” near RAF LOSSIEMOUTH with a 500 m runway orientated 16/34. Could this be another strip in the vicinity or could it be the 15/33 runway listed at SHEMPSTONE FARM?" See comment below.
