SLINDON: Mooring-out airship Station.
Note: This picture was obtained from Google Earth ©.
Spot the Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747-400 over-flying, after crossing the Atlantic, without much if any doubt joining 'downwind' to land on runway 26L at GATWICK.
Operated by: RNAS/RAF (Royal Naval Air Service / Royal Air Force)
Location: W to NW of Slindon village, N of the A27 & W of the A29 on a private estate. About 4nm WNW of Arundel town centre
Period of operation: 1918 to 1919
NOTES: SLINDON was a mooring-out Station for RNAS/RAF POLEGATE. It appears that two SSZ airships were based here. Pictures of these airships can be found on the inter-web.
