Note:  All four of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©

Operated by: Mr Martin Gosling

Location: According to one flight guide it is 4nm NNE of Sudbury, but according to another flight guide 3.5nm SSW of Sudbury. A check on Google Earth shows that it is roughly 4.5nm SSW to SW of Sudbury town centre.

Period of operation: 1990s to -

Runway: 1990:  12/30   650x20   grass      (Perhaps runway 17/35 also?)

2015:  11/29   665x20   grass            17/35   470   grass

NOTES:  Isn't it interesting how much the information can vary in pilot's flight guides, and how often it is inaccurate. The runway information published in 2001 for example appears clearly misleading as the 1990 and 2015 details are virtually identical. The apparent discrepancy in the runway headings is because magnetic North varies over a period of time and runway headings need to be changed.

According to another source, Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust UK, STONES FARM is situated to the NNW of this. This may well be correct of course, but according to our GPS on a flight in this region, this site was given.

In 2020 I decided to double check and it now appears the GPS was incorrect - which they often are of course. In fact, the aerial picture I had taken and used to illustrate this listing, until I got round to adding the Google Earth pictures, (which reveal that nothing here has changed in twenty years), was actually of LITTLE MAPLESTEAD which is just to the SE.
