Sumerleyton Avenue

SUMERLEYTON AVENUE: Temporary aerodrome

Operated by: Berkshire Aviation Co

Location: Near Kidderminster

Period of operation:  Early September 1919

NOTES: ‘Flying circus’ venue. Joy rides 5s, loops 10s and spins a £1. It is of course impossible to make direct comparsions between then and today, but, it would appear, the cost of having the experience of spinning in an aeroplane, (£1), was roughly equivalent to a working mans weekly wages.

But of course we really must remember that for the vast majority of people in those days, the chance of having a flight was an immense privilege.
