NOTES: This was a ‘Flying circus’ venue for the Berkshire Aviation Co in 1922, but in 1912 Benny Hucks was giving demonstration flights from ‘Sych Field’ near Market Drayton. So am I correct in thinking this is probably more or less the same location?
By 1922 things were getting pretty desperate for most civil aviation concerns, the U.K. being pretty much bankrupt after WW1. There had been something of a heyday from 1919 to 1921 when companies offering joy-rides enjoyed considerable success. Especially at popular holiday resorts near the coast. However, it is plain that by the autumn custom was, for obvious reasons, heavily in decline.
Many companies foundered, but a few, like Berkshire Aviation, decided to take their operations inland, to where people lived, and continued through the winter. Indeed, there are reports of joy rides being offered on Xmas day!
