Operated by:  Lakes Gliding Club

Location:  Exact site unknown? Roughly just SE of Tebay village

Period of operation:  1956 to 1964

NOTES:   We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', to thank for kicking off this line of enquiry.  He found information that the Lakes Gliding Club once operated the Hawkridge Venture 1, G-ALMF (later BGA 688), which was unique in the U.K. And, thinks it had been operated from here? It was registered as G-ALMF to the Hawkridge Aircraft Co Ltd of Dunstable from 28.03.49 until 30.06.50. It crashed on the 22nd July 1962.

As BGA 688 it may well have been flown from here by the Lakes Gliding Club, although they have used other sites - the main base for over sixty years being WALNEY near Barrow-in-Furness.

APPLYING LOGIC?
Well.....that might be a mistake of course - especially in my case. What I tried to do, when looking at images on Google Earth, is to try and identify a likely location suitable for gliding. It also seemed sensible (?) to find a pretty decent lane along which gliders and a winch could be towed. The upshot being that my guess is just that. Purely a guesstimate, at best.

If anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be much appreciated.
