THATCHAM: Temporary aerodrome

Operated by: Berkshire Aviation Co

Location: Approx 3nm E of Newbury

Period of operation: 27-29th April 1919. Other records state the operation got under way on the 27th May

NOTES: This was the original Berkshire Aviation Co venue which went on to visit thirty-four towns mainly involved in giving passenger flights or Joy-rides as they were then generally known.

Some of the venues for the 1919 Tour are recorded but if the exact locations for ABINGDON, LEIGHTON BUZZARD, LEAMINGTON, STOKE-on-TRENT, SWINDON, THAME and WANTAGE are known please forward details. The same goes for the 1920 Tour regarding BANBURY, BOLTON, FROME and MACCLESFIELD. For the 1921 Tour details are missing for ASHBOURNE, DUNSTABLE, GLOUCESTER, HERTFORD, HITCHIN, NEWARK, NEWPORT (Staffs), RUGELEY, St ALBANS, SHIFNAL and WELLINGTON. For the 1922 Tour nothing appears known about the location for operations in BASINGSTOKE, BIDEFORD, BLANDFORD FORUM, CHEPSTOW, CONGLETON, LICHFIELD, LONGTON, NANTWICH, NEWTON ABBOT, REDHILL, SHERBORNE, TAVISTOCK, TEWKESBURY, TIVERTON, UTTOXETER and WEM.
