The Barns Of Claverhouse

Note: This map only shows my very rough guess as to the possible location. If anybody could kindly provide a more exact position for this site, this advice will be most welcome.

THE BARNS OF CLAVERHOUSE: Temporary aerodrome

Operated by: Alan Cobham’s 1932 National Aviation Day UK Display Tour

Location: Off the A.90 Forfar Road, NNE of Dundee city centre

Period of operation: 25th & 26th September 1932

NOTES: Was this also the venue when Cobham’s 1934 Tour displayed in/near Dundee on the 7th and 8th of May that year?

It is important, I think, to bear in mind that all the various sites used by the 'Flying Circus' operators, in the 1930s at least, were in fact licensed aerodromes even if only used for one day. Indeed, a couple of men from the Ministry would arrive by car and inspect the site before it was used, and often if it was a bit on the tight side, imposed a variety of limitations. Later on it was decided that these operators, or at least the trusted concerns, could become self-certifying.
