Note:  These first three pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©, the last two from my Google Earth © derived database. The picture of the Evans VP-1 was taken by Graham Frost at SYWELL with an 'Instamatic', on the 16th July 1972.

Operated by:  It appears (?) -  Mr John S Penny

Location:  Just SW of Thorpe Salvin village, about Inm WNW of NETHERTHORPE aerodrome and roughly 4nm WNW of Worksop town centre

Period of operation:  Unknown?  Possibly from 1969 to 1975?

NOTES:  We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide' to thank for pointing out this location.

It appears that Mr John S Penny used this airstrip with the Piper PA-28-140 Cherokee G-AVBP. This being registered to Hydraulic Services (Chesterfield) Ltd from 16.06.69 to 22.09.75. It also appears that due to the strips proximity to NETHERTHORPE he had to register his movements with them.

No doubt the reason for not basing his Cherokee at NETHERTHORPE is simply because the runways were too short?

It also appears the Mr Penny has owned the Evans VP-1 Volksplane G-AYXW from 30.04.71 to 07.06.2002. So, did he use it here? I suspect the answer is "Yes", but presumably it wasn't based here for the period he had the Cherokee at this location, as no evidence of a hangar seems to exist? Or does it?

The hangar?
The hangar?

In 2022 Graham pointed out that a hangar, typical of one designed to house one aeroplane, can indeed be seen. In this case quite clearly in a Google Earth © image dated 2008.

As always in this 'Guide', if anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be much appreciated.
