Tom Hayes strip

Note: This map only shows the position of the City of Lincoln within the UK. If anybody can kindly offer more advice, this will be most welcome.

TOM HAYES STRIP: Private airstrip

NOTES: It appears that after basing his Taylorcraft G-AIRE at BOSTON for a couple of years, starting in 1951, Mr Tom Hayes, (a founding father of the Lincoln Aero Club), used for a year or so a strip near his home near Lincoln belonging to a farmer friends field, even building a hangar there. Today we can only guess at the change of circumstances which led him to abandon this arrangement after such a short period of time.

The main reason for including this in this 'Guide', apart from the value of marking the occurence and site, is to illustrate that many 'farm' and 'private' strips have a very short existence. Indeed, a strip could be laid out for use during a single summer season. This does of course add so much to illustrate the wonderful diversity of flying sites we enjoy in the UK.
