TORRE ABBEY: Temporary Landing Ground

NOTES: It seems that on the 27th July 1910 Claude Grahame-White possibly took off from the grounds in TORRE ABBEY, (certainly from a site nearby), which is about 2nm NNE to NE of Paignton town centre, to fly twice over the Coronation Fleet Review involving about two hundred and fifty warships at anchor. The first overflight at 13.20 the next at 17.15. Both flights being about twelve minutes?

It appears that these flights caused quite a stir amongst the naval top brass as they then realised that their warships had no defence from attacks from the air.
