The outline of this WW2 grass airfield can still be clearly seen. It was basically square with the SW corner severely truncated by the railway line.
Military user: RAF Fighter Command 70 Group
631 Sqdn (Hawker Hurricanes, Miles Martinets & Vultee A-35 Vengeance TTs)
A/A Co-Operation Unit
Location: 0.5nm NNW of Towyn
Period of operation: 1940 to 1945
Runways: E/W 640 grass NE/SW 1006 grass
NW/SE 1097 grass
NOTES: In late 1944 the RAF had 435 men and 102 WAAFs based here. Were the women happy having at least four suitors on average pestering them?
