Operated by:  Mr Horace Tempest

Location: Just SW of Lelant on the B3074, opposite Hayle and about 2.5nm SE of St Ives centre

Period of operation: Probably early 1950s to -

Runway: 11/29   500   grass

NOTES:
It now appears, (in 2023), that Mr Horace Tempest had the Miles M38 Messenger 2A, G-AJKK, registered to him from 25.04.50 to 19.03.66. Except that the address was TREVEHOE MANOR. Mr Tempest also had the Miles M65 Gemini 1A, G-AISM, based here from 08.06.55 to 07.07.60. Later declared PWFU, (Permanently Withdrawn From Use).

In the mid 1970s is seems two aircraft were based here; Cessna 175C G-ARWS registered to H Tempest Ltd and the M.S. 880B Rallye Club G-AZGK also registered to Mr H Tempest.

A BIT MORE INFO

In 2023, Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', pointed out that G-BCBZ was also based here. This Cessna 337C Super Skymaster (ex SE-FKB), was registered to H Tempest Ltd, Colour Laboratory, St Ives, from 08.06.79 until 06.07.87. It then went to Westward Airways (Lands End) from 06.07.87 until 04.04.89.

The hangar was destroyed by a tree falling on it in the winter storms a couple of years ago. Currently, 2 aircraft are operated from the airstrip by Peter Channon/Shannon

Reply from Dick Flute:
Hi Jeremy, Many thanks for this information. I suspect that it is not generally realised just how damage is done to light aviation especially, by winter storms. Best regards, Dick

Hi, I flew in there in the late 70' was visiting a friends mother who lived nearby. The owner came out to meet us, he was an elderly gentleman in a wheelchair, I remember he had an aviary at the back of his house. He watched us take off. It was a small grass field, fly in and out one was due to the trees at one end. I've tried looking for it on Google map but cant find it.
