TUNSTALL: Temporary aerodrome?

NOTES: Some years ago I made these comments: "This is purely a guess. TUNSTALL to the N of Stoke-on-Trent was it seems, on the 15th and 16th September 1934 the venue for the Sir Alan Cobham Tour. But, there is also a TUNSTALL in KENT, another in LANCASHIRE and in NORFOLK also, two in STAFFORDSHIRE actually, (one being in STOKE today), one more in SUFFOLK and another in TYNE and WEAR. Plus two more in YORKSHIRE to round it off".

"This amply illustrates the sort of problems I often encounter trying to determine locations for many flying sites. This said, as I regard the TUNSTALL in STOKE/STAFFORDSHIRE as being by far the best known, I think I'll pin my hopes on this. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much appreciated".

NOTE:  Aided by Mike Holder, see 'Comment' below, a fuller history of this location has now been found. See listing for:  PORTHILL MEADOW

This took some finding but from the Staffordshire Sentinel - Friday 14 September 1934 - Sir Alan's team will demonstrate many daring feats at Bradwell Lane, Porthill, tomorrow Sunday the 15th Sept 1934. There are 2 good sized fields (now built on) either side of Bradwell Lane on the NW edge of Porthill
