Uppingham School
UPPINGHAM SCHOOL: Temporary flying ground
Location: The school, still a quite famous public school, is situated almost in the town centre of Uppingham
Period of operation: November 1912
NOTES: I have discovered a record of the then famous Gustav Hamel giving a display of flying in Uppingham School grounds in a Blériot monoplane. Does anybody now know the circumstances behind this apparently singular and possibly unique invitation to perform a flying display from a school in those days?
