Operated by:  1981   Glamorgan Gliding Club

Mid 1990s to - : South Wales Gliding Club

Location: N of B4235, E of A449, 2nm ENE of Usk

Period of operation: 1970s (?) to -

Runway(s): Typically for a gliding site this airfield is orientated roughly E/W and has no defined runway or runways. The longest landing run appears to be roughly;  11/29   750   grass

NOTES: Listed as being in GWENT in a 1970s and a 1980s airfield guide. In the mid 1970s the Morane Saulnier M.S.893A Rallye Commodore 180 G-AXIT was based here registered to Mr J Grehan. This type makes an excellent glider-tug so was it used as such?

USK: Private airstrip

NOTES: Information source AAIB report EW/G2011/06/24. This involved the X’Air Falcon 133(2) G-CEDO which may have been based here? Oddly enough the report gives Usk as being in Gwent. The degree of changes in recent years of ‘County’ boundary changes and the creation of spurious new “Counties” in south Wales is nigh on legendary since WW2 and reeks of gerrymandering at the least - but, I’m pretty certain Usk is still in Monmouthshire?

If anybody can kindly offer advice about this airstrip, this will be most welcome.
