Waldringfield
Note: This map only gives a rough approximation of the site used. The AAIB report states that the site was bounded by buildings and power cables, and this location seems to be the most likely?

NOTES: Info source AAIB report EW/G2004/05/20.
I strongly suspect, with no proof of course, that this was a one-off visit? It is a common myth that light aircraft only operate from prepared airstrips, and indeed airfields. Although the majority do of course, ever since the earliest years of powered fixed wing aircraft, there are countless examples of aircraft landing in suitable fields, large gardens etc, for a once only visit. Indeed, even in more recent years, light aircraft owners have obtained permission to land in a suitable field, just to make a one-off visit.
Doing so is great fun, but as a general rule, should only be attempted by highly experienced pilots. This being because so many light aircraft, especially since WW2, are designed to only operate from prepared strips and airfields. This said, types such as the Mainair Blade 912, G-BZTU, that featured in this report, with very short take-off and landing capabilities, (STOL really), can safely operate, in the right hands, from all sorts of marginal locations.
