A FERRY SERVICE ACROSS THE HUMBER
*The service operated by North Sea Aerial & General Transport, (owned and operated by the Blackburn Aeroplane & Motor Co Ltd) was the ‘Humber Air Ferry’ based at BROUGH (YORKSHIRE) and used two aircraft. The Blackburn Seagrave G-ABFR and a DH Fox Moth G-ABWB. The twin engine Seagrave could carry three passengers whereas the single engine Fox Moth could, at a pinch, carry four.
For some today it might seem that such a short air service, roughly 22nm, could be viable? Certainly the distance by car (Hull to Grimsby) was roughly around 65 miles at least on mostly poor roads and the passenger ferry service across the Humber estuary probably not attractive either. So, for those who could afford it – a convenient alternative.
**I have no idea if this is accurate information – but there is a record stating this was the case.
