Wambrook Farm

WAMBROOK FARM:  Used for helicopter training exercises

Location: Just N of Wambrook village, about 2nm W of Chard town centre

Period of operation:  Early 1980s to -

NOTES: In October 2018 I had an opportunity to talk to the farmer who told me that Royal Navy helicopters from MERRIFIELD and YEOVILTON have been regularly using his farm for night training exercises since the Falklands War. He also told me the Royal Navy use a large number of other farms in the region. Sometimes a ground-based team arrive.

In return they are given helicopter rides, entry to air shows, and are wined and dined from time to time. An excellent arrangement, not dissimilar to past arrangements used by the Army from MIDDLE WALLOP.
