West Felton

Note: This map only shows the position of West Felton village within the UK. It is the purpose of this 'Guide' regarding private airstrips, to simply record their existence. However, if an exact location is known for this location, this advice will be most welcome.

WEST FELTON: Private airstrip

Location: In/near West Felton village which is just W of the A5 about 4nm SE of Oswestry

Period of operation: 1970s only?

NOTES: In the mid 1970s it seems the only aircraft based here was the Piper PA-22 Colt 108 G-ARKN registered to Shropshire Coachworks Ltd.

On a personal note, it is quite likely I saw this aircraft either on the ground in a crate or being shoe-horned out of a DC-7C freighter on the north side of HEATHROW, when I was a pretty determined spotter in the late 1950s and early 1960s. I certainly saw a great many 'rag-wing' PA-22s being delivered as air cargo to HEATHROW.

This was the era when the UK had relaxed the ban on light aircraft being imported from the USA, and elsewhere I suppose, and compared to what we had available they were proving to be very popular indeed.
