Note:  This picture was obtained from Google Earth ©

I have to thank the Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust for helping to pin-point this location. My original estimate was about half a mile adrift.

Military user: RAF  (Royal Air Force)

39 [Home Defence] Sqdn    (Bristol F.2 Fighter)

Location: About 0.5nm E of the A111, roughly 0.75nm S of Cockfosters tube station

Period of operation: May 1918 to June 1919

Site area: 42 acres       549 x 384

NOTES:   On the night of the 19/20th May 1918, it appears a Bristol F.2 Fighter of 39 Squadron shot down a Gotha bomber. Presumbly whilst operating from here?

No other success appears recorded for this site although, earlier in WW1 39 Squadron did have a couple of other notable successes against Zeppelin airships. Please Google the Squadron history.
