WESTHOUGHTON GOLF COURSE: Forced landing site

G-SKIE on the ground
G-SKIE on the ground

Location: Roughly halfway between Wigan and Bolton

NOTES: It seems hard to believe looking at this lovely picture, scanned from the August 2017 edition of Light Aviation magazine, that this was the result of a very serious situation when the pilot of the Steen Skybolt (G-SKIE)  encountered a very rough running engine and had no option but to carry out a forced landing. Which he obviously achieved very successfully.

I have no idea why this might be, but having flown in every country in western Europe and beyond, we do seem in the UK to have many more instances of engine faiIure than anywhere else I have flown.

The other aspect, clearly seen in this picture, is why on earth was the Air Ambulance involved? Very obviously a complete waste of a highly valuable resource.
