Wheatsheaf Hotel

WHEATSHEAF HOTEL: Private helipad   (Aka THE WHEATSHEAF)

The Wheatsheaf Hotel
The Wheatsheaf Hotel

Operated by: 2000: Mr A Vanbach, Wheatsheaf Hotel

Location: On & N of A30, just NE of A30/A33 split, in/near North Waltham, near & N of junction 8 (M3), 5.5nm SW of Basingstoke town centre. POPHAM 2nm WSW

Landing area: Grass pad   20x10m   adjacent to hotel

NOTES: I have actually stayed here when becoming fogbound at POPHAM in 2001 with Paddy Jordan whilst engaged on producing an article for PILOT magazine extolling the virtues of flying along the south coast of England from Dorset to Kent.
Neither of us had any idea that it boasted a helipad facility. For a bit more info regarding this project please see my entry for ROCHESTER (KENT).

One pilot flight guide stated it is on the A4 but in fact the A4 is some 18nm miles away due north at its nearest point! More flight guide garbage I’m afraid and such a damned shame that one or two obviously don’t even bother checking even the basics before publication? It is no coincidence that the pilot flight guide that I asked permission from, to copy their maps, is generally regarded as being probably the best, although I have a high regard for a couple of others.

Or, of course, is there actually another Wheatsheaf Hotel on the A4 also with a helipad?
