Military users: RFC/RAF Home Defence Flight Station

77 [Home Defence] Sqdn   (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c and B.E.12 types. Later Avro 504s)


Location: Just SE of Whiteburn hamlet, S of Ecclaw, W of B6112, NNE of Abbey St Bathans, and about 10nm SE to ESE of Dunbar

Period of operation: 1916 to 1919


Site area: 120 acres 777 x 731   


NOTES:  As Mike points out, for those who were based here, it must have been a god-forsaken posting - really in the middle of nowhere - especially in those days. Slim chances of any worthwhile relief and entertainment for miles around. Or, are we mistaken?
