Whitefield

WHITEFIELD: Military Relief Landing Ground

Military user: RAF Flying Training Command       51 Group

EFTS(RLG)

Location: W of A94, S of Whitefield, 7nm NNE of Perth

Period of operation: 1939 to 1945

Runway: NE/SW   823   grass

NOTES: In late 1944 just 36 RAF personnel were based here - presumably to operate the kettle?

By the end of 1940 No.11 EFTS at PERTH/SCONE had ninety DH Tiger Moths in operation, plus all the other types operating of course, and this led to WHITEFIELD RLG being opened.

Presumably by late 1944 this operation was being wound down?
