Note: This map only gives the position of Whitstable town within the UK. If anybody can kindly offer more exact positions for these venues, this will be much appreciated.

Note: These pictures taken by the author in June 2018, show the potential beach sites the Short S.33 might just have used.

However, the harbour in Whitstable has been considerably expanded over the intervening years, and I strongly suspect that no groins existed.

NOTES: It appears that one of the main duties for the Short S.33 seaplane based at HARTY FERRY on the Isle of Sheppey, (in around 1912 and possibly up to 1914?); roughly 6nm west of Whitstable, was to fly across to collect fresh oysters for the Royal Navy officers mess at EASTCHURCH. A short flight taking minutes whereas the tortuous journey by road could take hours. It still can!

Seen from another perspective, these flights could also constitute one of the earliest air freight operations.

  WHITSTABLE: Civil temporary aerodrome?

NOTES: Joseph Navarro’s company employed four Avro 504Ks, see SOUTHEND in ESSEX for a few extra details.

Note: Mike Holder, a great friend of this 'Guide' found this advert in the Whitstable Times and Herne Bay Herald, published on 15th September 1928. It appears that the Cornwall Aviation Co were operating here from the 7th to the 20th September 1928. But from where? The Seasalter Road  address doesn't help, as it could encompass several potential fields.
