Wigsley WW1

WIGSLEY: Military Landing Ground

Military users: RFC/RAF

33 [Home Defence] Sqdn    (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2 then F.E.2 types. In 1918 Bristol F.2B Fighters, lastly Avro 504 fighters)

Location: Just E of Wigsley village, roughly NE of the WW2 airfield, 2nm S of the A57, 1.5nm E of the A1133, about 6.5nm W of Lincoln

Period of operation: 1916 to 1919

Site area: 35 acres     457 x 366

NOTES: Yet another example where when starting out on this project I’d automatically assume that this site and the WW2 airfield are one and the same. But apparently this is not so, although they were very close to each other. I’m often amazed though as to how history lingers on as, listed on Ordnance Survey maps even today, is a site at this location known as Airfield Pig Farm.
