WILKIESTON FARM: Private airstrip

Local area view
Local area view

This picture is from my Google Earth © derived database.

Operated by:  Mr Stewart Russell

Location:  Roughly 4nm SSW of St Andrews town centre

Period of operation:  Unknown?   Possibly from 1971 to 1978?

NOTES:  It has been reported that Mr Russell had the Slingsby T.66 Nipper Srs.3, G-AVXD, based here from 23.12.71 until 07.04.78. Presumably purchased as a Xmas present?

This airstrip seems very difficult to pin down, accounts seem to vary as to where it was. This said, according to the scant information available, (often contradictory), the local area view provided gives some idea of the rough location. A look at the area in detail, on Google Earth shows no obvious signs of where the strip might have been. But of course, a gap or two in the hedges were probably used - long since filled in.

If anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be much appreciated.
