WINFIELD HOUSE:  Temporary Landing Ground

Location:  In the SW corner of Regent's Park, central London

NOTES: Winfield House is the official residence of the U S Ambassador. When President Obama visited the UK in April 2016 he flew in here, in 'Marine One', a Sikorsky VH-3D Sea King. Prior to his arrival three V22 Ospreys were flown into MILDENHALL inside a C-17 Globemaster III. Presumably one was a spare as only two were seen, usually flying together.

It appears that, within the general area the presidential Sea King was operating in, several other helicopters, including two British helicopters, (Army and/or Police?), were in fairly close attendance.

A press photo taken at night dimly shows the Sea King landing here. But no obvious sign of the two Ospreys, although the trio were clearly seen landing at CHEQUERS during this visit. The two Ospreys were seen operating in the central London area prior to the arrival of the President.

Is this I wonder, the first arrival here by air of a U S President? In the past, generally speaking I think, the heavily armed motorcade was the preferred means of arrival in central London.
