Witley Park

WITLEY PARK: Civil Private Landing Ground

Aerial view 2018
Aerial view 2018

Note:  This picture was obtained from Google Earth ©

Operated by: Sir John Leigh

Location: “1m W Witley imm adj A286, imm N of Parsonage Farm”

Period of operation: 1930s only?

Runway(s): Max landing run: 622 grass (Other sources claim 549)

NOTES: Listed in the 1930s ‘A.A. Register of Landing Grounds’.

The nearest telephone was the public telephone kiosk in Brook and the LG had no hangarage available. Fuel and transport, (the latter typically a taxi service), was available from Witley Motors Works, Crossways, Witley. The recommended hotels were the Pinehurst Hotel, (no longer trading it seems), and The White Hart Hotel which is, both in Witley.

The map and picture above simply shows the location of Witley Park today. As far as I can make out, the position of the airstrip is now covered in trees.
