Anneddwen Farm
ANNEDDWEN FARM: Temporary aerodrome
In compiling this 'Guide' the location of various obscure sites has come from a very wide variety of sources. In this case, from memory, unique. The information came from a scrap of newspaper found during a house clearance. Just how lucky can you be! In researching the aviation history of this region, Mike Holder, a great friend of this 'Guide', happened to come across a mention of this discovery.
It did not have the name of the newspaper, nor the date - but - it did provide an exact location. Basically the article told of; "A magnificent spectacle of aviation, from a farm called Anneddwen. So many people attended, the sides of the Preseli Mountains were lined with spectators."
Location: About 1nm NW of Crymych village which is on the A470. About 10.5nm SSW of Aberporth town centre and roughly 13nm E of Fishguard town centre

Note: The area view is from my Google Earth © derived database.
NOTES: Mike and I strongly suspect that this event was held by the James brothers from Narberth, who, since September 1913 had been flying out of Brynfrych Farm near Clynderwen, which is 2.5nm NNE of Narberth town centre. (See the listing for NARBERTH for more info.) That site being about 10nm SSW of this one.
The James brothers were, as far as we know, the only people prior to WW1 flying around this area on a regular basis, and had gained considerable publicity in the press for doing so. So, if our guess is correct, this leads us to suppose that this visit was at some time between late 1913 and mid 1914?
As always in this 'Guide', if anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be much appreciated.
