Location: E of B9014, SW of Lower Auchenreat and NE of Bogmoor, 9nm E of Elgin

Period of operation: Military: 1943 to 1945          Civil: Gliding from 1980s (?) to 1991 (?)
 

Runways: WW2: 04/22   1463x46   hard           11/29   1280x46   hard

 

NOTES: The Beaufighter Strike Wing based here are now known for their raids into German-occupied Norway - very dangerous missions. Forty-two aircraft and seventy aircrew were lost. On just one sortie, February 9th 1945, (known a Black Friday), nine out of thirty-one Beaufighters were lost, six from 404 Squadron alone.
