Note: Both of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©

Operated by: Mr Peter G Lee

Location:  Just ENE of Chignal Smealy, about 3.5nm NW of Chelmsford town centre

Period of operation: 1980s (?) to 2011

Runway:  06/24   405x15   grass

NOTES:  Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide' tells us that the Miles M65 Gemini 1A, G-AKHP, was registered to Mr Peter Lee at this address from 24.10.84 until 04.05.2001. But, in the pictures above there is no obvious sign of a hangar - and a Gemini needs to be hangared. So, presumably based elsewhere.

It also appears the Helio H-295 Super Courier G-BGIX (ex N68861) was based here. (It can be seen in the pictures above). This being registered to Caroline M Lee from 04.05.89 until 04.04.2011. Could it be that the airstrip was laid out for the arrival of the Super Courier? Or, perhaps more likely (?) used by the Gemini from time to time before?

As always in this 'Guide', if anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be most welcome. Pictures are of course always appreciated.
