Note:  This picture was obtained from Google Earth ©

Location: Just S of the B9113, just N of Loch Fithie, about 2nm ENE of Forfar town centre

Period of operation:  2016 (?) to -

Runway:   09/27   500   grass

NOTES: The initial information came from the AAIB report EW/G2016/06/15, although the actual accident site was many miles away in Aberdeenshire. Further enquiries on the web revealed that Virgin Balloons list this as an alternative launching site - which they call FORFAR AIRFIELD.

We were out walking at the Murton Centre on Thursday when this old, we think, American Aeroplane which also had Navy on it's side, flew over us to land in a field at the back of the centre cafe. Is this a private airfield - it is the first time i knew there was a landing area there.

Hi Eileen, Many thanks. I have now had a further look into this, and sure enough there it is. My Google Earth picture has an aircraft on the field. Best regards, Dick
