NOTES:  I have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', to thank for kicking off this enquiry. He tells us Burnthills Aviation operated a helicopter service to Fort William (from as far afield as Glasgow and Aberdeen), from 1978 to 1984. The first picture shows where he believes the helipad was situated, which is just N of Fort William town centre.

I found it rather hard to believe that another helipad serving Fort William hasn't been established since, and enquiries revealed that there has been - of a sort. The second map only shows my guess as to where this might be. I could find no obvious evidence on Google Earth but it appears that Coastguard and Police helicopters have been landing on a site at Carrs Corner, next to the A82. Which in turn would be fairly close to the A82/A830 junction. A news item revealed that access was denied for a while after somebody dumped a load of tarmac onto it.

A trawl of the inter-web reveals that, (in 2020), a new purpose-built helipad for Fort William is in the planning stage.
