I have the Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust to thank for helping to pin-point this location.

Site area: 168 acres      832 x 823    (Work began in August 1918)

NOTES: Although never used (?) it seems certainly worth mentioning that many military airfields both in WW1 and WW2 were under construction when the war ended. Pretty obviously I have tried to concentrate on sites that were operational but the work, (and money spent), involved in constructing an airfield was substantial to say the least.

This site, (along with many others of course), serves to illustrate the enormous waste involved in any war effort. This airfield was intended to be used by the USAAS. In WW2 many fully operational airfields were used for barely a year or more especially by US Forces!
