Holkham Bay

HOLKHAM BAY: Temporary gliding site

Location: Holkham Bay is just N of Holkham village on the A149, just W of Wells-next-the-Sea

NOTES: Shortly after making a cross-country gliding flight from DUNSTABLE DOWNS to Raleigh in ESSEX in April 1934, Eric Collins then completed another epic cross-country flight, landing somewhere in this area.

I mention this site because it was, for that period, a very notable feat, but mostly to mention that the gliding fraternity alone must have logged many thousands of similar obscure ‘flying’ sites in the UK. To which can be added the escapades of the ballooning, hang gliding, helicopter and of course, let’s not forget, parachutists of all persuasions. Accident sites covering every type of aerial activity also count of course.
