Iron Acton

IRON ACTON:  Private airfield      (Aka GRANGE FARM)

Note:  In this 'Guide' an airstrip is just that - airstrip singular. Any private location having two or more runways is an 'airfield'.

The first two pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©. The local area and area views are from my Google Earth © derived database. Note that the 2021 view shows this airfield being laid out with the hangar under construction.

Location:  Just N of the B4059, E of Earthcott Green and NW of Latteridge villages. About 2.5nm ENE of the M4/M5 junction.

Period of operation:  2022 to -

Runways:   03/21   350   grass          10/28   250   grass

NOTES:  We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', to thank for pointing out this location. The base for the Aeroprakt A32 Vixxen, G-VIXI.

My flying days are long over now, (and I did really love doing some 'farm strip' flying), so it gives me much pleasure indeed to find another new private airfield being so very well laid out. A credit to all involved, especially the main operator.

Now then - can you keep a secret? Producing a 'Guide' such as this I am of course expected to be objective. An attitude not much helped by flying well over sixty different examples of the Cessna 172 - the true classic light aircraft of all time of course. So good for aerial photography and air-to-air photographic sorties.

When the Aeroprakt A-22 Foxbat, designed by Yuri Yakovlev came on the scene in 1999, to me it looked like another classic. Perfect for touring around and seeing so much of the scenery, plus STOL capability. Never got to fly one, but did move one from central Spain in my truck back to the UK - damaged by a localised tornado can you believe. When the A32 Vixxen was launched - it just got better!
