Kempton Park racecourse
KEMPTON PARK RACECOURSE: Helipads and once having a fixed wing runway
Note: All four of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©
Location: Just SE of Sunbury-on-Thames, 4nm W of Kingston-upon-Thames, roughly 4nm SE of HEATHROW airport
Note: Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide' tracked down these pictures of the Helio H395 Super Courier G-ARLD at KEMPTON PARK in 1965. From 07.63 to 02.69 it was owned by Sir Robert McAlpine & Sons Ltd, Aviation Division, based at LUTON airport.
Runway: (Picture 2004, Google Earth ©) 07/29 1300 grass I believe the long straight marked on the first picture above is the 'runway' being used by the Super Courier.
NOTES:
I do not know for how long the runway for fixed wing aircraft was available. Graham also tells us that other helipads/helicopter landing areas have been used over the years. For example, one was up near the north end and inside of the main race-track, another being in the south east sector.
MODEL FLYING
Note: The first picture was obtained from Google Earth ©, the second from the Kempton Park Model Flying Club website.
NOTES: This model flying area is to the east of the racecourse, close to the dog walking area seen on the pictures for the racecourse above. I do not know how long this site has been in use for. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome. Plus of course, pictures are always appreciated.
