Lawrenny

LAWRENNY: Military seaplane base   (aka LAWRENNY FERRY)

Military user: Royal Navy (Fleet Air Arm)     Seaplane training

764 Sqdn   (Fairey Swordfish, Supermarine Walrus and later Vought-Sikorsky OS2U Kingfisher types)

Location: In/near Lawrenny, in the upper reaches of Milford Haven, 3nm ENE of Pembroke Dock

Period of operation: 1941 to 1943

NOTES: It appears that initially this Station was equipped with eight Supermarine Walrus and just one Fairey Swordfish on floats. In all my twenty plus years of research for this 'Guide' and over sixty years of being interested in aviation history, I cannot recall ever coming across a Swordfish on floats.

Perhaps there were loads of them, I have no idea. Can anybody kindly advise here?

Also, and I may well be mistaken, I cannot remember listing the Vought-Sikorsky OS2U Kingfisher floatplane operating anywhere else in the UK.
