Mains of Larg Farm

Notes: A search for information on this particular farm location has revealed nothing to date, which is quite unusual as farms tend to stay around for a long time. This said, the actual spelling can sometimes vary over a longish period. Any advice on this will be most welcome.

Therefore, this map only shows the position of New Luce village within the UK.

MAINS of LARG FARM: Very temporary landing site

Location: Near New Luce, 5nm NNW of Glenluce

NOTES: After the LUCE BAY station received a telegram at 5a.m. on the 11th Nov 1918 stating that hostilities would cease at 11a.m. an “unknown” pilot of 258 Sqdn took-off in an Airco D.H.6 and landed here to announce the war was over.

But why? Who did he so desperately need to tell? His family, or perhaps more likely a local sweetheart? It has been discovering little details like this that has made my research so very worthwhile, it brings the history alive. I do so hope that this account is true.
