Manor Farm Glatton
MANOR FARM: Private airstrip
Note: Possibly once known in some circles as GLATTON (WEST) FARM? And indeed, often known as GLATTON - MANOR FARM
Note: The first five pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©. The area view is from my Google Earth © derived database.
Operated by: Mr J D Williams?
Location: NW of the village of Glatton on the B660, about a mile or so W of the A1 and about 2nm WSW of the WW2 GLATTON aerodrome later CONINGTON and now PETERBOROUGH BUSINESS AIRPORT
Period of operation: 1970s to -
Runway: (1999) 10/28 540 grass (2016) 10/28 720 grass
Note: This site has a most intriguing feature for a private airstrip in that there are clearly visible two wide taxyways that, it would appear, could easily double for runways suitable for use by STOL and microlight types? Or indeed many GA types for landing on, if a strong wind is blowing. This said I have often demonstrated in nil wind conditions that a Cessna 172, for example, can easily be landed in less than 150 metres.
If this is the case, the one leading south from the main runway is 01/19 335 grass, and at the southern end of this, forming an 'L' as it were, is 10/28 330 grass.
NOTES: In the mid 1970s it seems the Piper PA-28-180D Cherokee G-AWXR was based here. I cannot be certain that the present airstrip is on the same site as that used in the 1970s?. If anybody can kindly offer advice this will be most welcome.
