Marsh Court

MARSH COURT:   Private airstrip/airfield

Note:  There is, it seems, no information available regarding the Landing Run or Runs used here. In this 'Guide' I use the term 'airstrip' as being just that - singlular. If two or more runways are used I refer to it as an airfield.

Operated by:  Mr Patrick Randolph

Location:  Just N of Caundle Marsh village on the A3030. About 3nm SE of Sherborne town centre

Period of operation:  1934 to 1937   (Only?)

Runways:  Not known. Assuming the field(s) have not much altered in the last ninety years, (and often they haven't), the Landing Runs might have been:

NE/SW   340        E/W   420        SE/NW   390

All quite reasonable for operating, especially if lightly laden, a Percival Gull Six and Percival Vega Gull.

NOTES:  We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide' to thank for pointing out this location.

It appears that Mr Patrick Randolph had the Percival D.3 Gull Six, G-ACUL based here from 19.09.34 until 07.09.36. Before selling this on, which went to New Zealand as ZK-AES in November 1936, he had acquired the Percival P.10 Vega Gull G-AEKD which was registered to him from 15.06.36 until 12.10.37. Although official records state that this was based at GRAVESEND in KENT. Up till then of course the base and manufacturing facility for the Percival Aircraft Company from 1934 until they moved to LUTON in 1936.
