Mounts Bay

MOUNTS BAY: Temporary seaplane venue

NOTES: It seems that in both 1913 and 1914 Gustav Hamel held flying demonstrations with a seaplane in MOUNTS BAY near Penzance. More details and confirmation about these events will be much appreciated.

Some accounts state that he was the first pilot, (a mega-star in his day), ever to demonstrate a loop in the UK before his death in a flying accident in May 1914.

Other accounts, which I think are reliable, state that B C Hucks was the first to ‘loop-the-loop’ in public in the UK, at HENDON in November 1913. See FILEY (YORKSHIRE) for another version.
