This article was published in the New Milton Advertiser on the 25th May 1929.

Operated by: Philips & Powis Aircraft Ltd

Note: This company later became better known as Miles Aircraft, initially based at WOODLEY (BERKSHIRE). It is often forgotten that even in WW2, despite the influence of F G Miles as their top designer, the company was still known as Philips & Powis Aircraft Ltd. This said, I do not think that it is generally known today that Philips & Powis were also engaged in 'joy-ride operations'. But, those were tough times, and many famous aircraft manufacturing companies, such as Avro after WW1, decided to raise revenue from 'joy-ride' operations.

Location: In/near Highcliffe on the A337, roughly 3 to 4nm E of Christchurch

Period of operation: 1929 only?

NOTES: It seems they charged 5/- (five shillings ) a trip, which was quite likely just a short circuit (?) - so what would that be equal to today? Roughly £50 it seems?
