North Petherton
Note: A A Broughton & Son are still in the farming business today (2018) and this map shows their postcode address. It would seem reasonable to suppose that the airstrip was nearby? If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
NORTH PETHERTON: Private airstrip (Aka IMPENS)
Operated by: A A Broughton & Son Ltd
Location: Probably just SE North Petherton, which is on the A38 just W of the M5 today, roughly 2.5nm S to SSW of Bridgewater town centre
Period of operation: Mid 1970s to the early 1980s only?
Runway?: Looking at Google Earth (image date 2016) there appears to be a possible trace of an old runway in a harvested wheat field just east of Impens. If this is the case, it would have been 06/24 620 grass.
NOTES: In the mid 1970s it seems only one aircraft was based here; The Socata M.S. 892A Rallye Commodore 150 G-AZVI. This aircraft was registered to A A Broughton & Son from the 6th January 1975 until the 8th October 1981.
